Ok, I love paper-cut design. Paper cutting is my drug. Also tea is my drug, and scorpions are my biggest fear probably.

SO SHANTY

Lots of work to do this week. Especially with this bad boy; the Frozen Light book featuring a tiny selection of Snap Shot Shanty lore.

The rest, pictured here, are collateral pieces designed for a fuax gallery exhibit. Invite (assembled to resemble the real shanty), ticket (after ice-house-fishing license), and poster (bubblewrapped). They also need some love.

New additions to this book will include shanty sentiments from us artists.
Tomorrow here in Minnesota will be our first extreme temps of the season.
Here is a tidbit from Sam Hoolihan about an icey day this last winter:

I remember on one of the coldest days of the projects, most people (shanty artists) didn't even show up. but the snap shot shanty did, and our shanty without a heater was as comfortable as usual.
most people didn't believe we weren't using a heater when they walked in.

How's that for passive solar?!

This snow is making things dangerously nostalgic during finals week here.

They are both beautiful in their own right.
I am now fascinated by decorated cakes. For a while I decorated Cold Stone Creamery cakes with obscene amounts of BetterCreme and chocolate ganache. I would love to become a pro at that again. It may take some trial and error, and lots of sugar, but this new collections book I'm making should turn out some pretty delicious typography...

I received this book this week (the green one) as a self-birthday-present. Thank you, Miranda July for never letting me put it down.

Reading this makes me feel at odds about having so much energy to listen, rather than tell. Yesterday, It wasn't working out for me very well...

ITS A VISUAL SOUND

I've been helping my new friend, Sandro Asatiani, translate one of his books from the Georgian language, into proper English grammar. He made his own type face for all his books, and it is truly beautiful in print! This book is a surreal story about his dreams of angels.

I quit playing basketball in high school to pursue community art. So now what does nike have to do with art? Sports and Art? Apparently a lot. I am not posting this because I like it...

I do, however, love Hannah Waldron's prints shown here on the far right.

MYSTERY MIXTAPE REVEALED

With eyes wide open like a shutter...

I found this mixtape in the MCAD van and have been listening to it ever since. It is SLAYER-sided, which allowed for some pretty quick pointillism to occur while working on projects. The other side has been a wonder, until now. Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band. Apparently one of their members is Minneapolis-native.

TO BE A FARMER

To be a farmer is really much like this? Futurefarmers addressed an existing problem in a community space, had a solution which was also equipped with a label (this one here) that addressed the consciousness of anyone who may interfere. Intuition, optimism, pro-activity and communication. With a sense of wit. 

Practical makes perfect.

PATELLOFEMORAL SYNDROME

I have a troubled knee. The doctor diagnosed me, and my online research suggests these simple stretches. Do you know how silly it is to do this wall stretch in public? Do you know how silly I feel for going to a doctor and an online family doctor website with these archaic illustrations, only to be told, "Just excercise and do your stretches, dummy!" ?

In other words, just act natural.

Wow.
