MYSTERY MIXTAPE REVEALED
With eyes wide open like a shutter...
I found this mixtape in the MCAD van and have been listening to it ever since. It is SLAYER-sided, which allowed for some pretty quick pointillism to occur while working on projects. The other side has been a wonder, until now. Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band. Apparently one of their members is Minneapolis-native.
TO BE A FARMER
To be a farmer is really much like this? Futurefarmers addressed an existing problem in a community space, had a solution which was also equipped with a label (this one here) that addressed the consciousness of anyone who may interfere. Intuition, optimism, pro-activity and communication. With a sense of wit.
Practical makes perfect.

PATELLOFEMORAL SYNDROME
I have a troubled knee. The doctor diagnosed me, and my online research suggests these simple stretches. Do you know how silly it is to do this wall stretch in public? Do you know how silly I feel for going to a doctor and an online family doctor website with these archaic illustrations, only to be told, "Just excercise and do your stretches, dummy!" ?
In other words, just act natural.
Wow.
POETICS OF PEACE
A new publication I am collaborating on for class, will focus on the personal voices of protesters during the events surrounding the RNC. We will allow their stories to harmonize within the pages of a visual essay, narrating their peaceful acts. Visual poetry like Martin Venezky's is a huge inspiration for me, always!

ASSEMBLING APPETITE
This is the first book I turn to for all of my projects. I often wonder when or if dazzling designs like this will ever materialize in my work.

This last year in Minneapolis, I am dedicating my time to getting serious about the design world, by focusing on more design play.
Peregrine Falcons. Babes. I unpacked a special exhibit about these little guys and their families at the Bell Museum of Natural History today. Their population was revived in Minnesota by bringing them to the tops of Minneapolis skyscrapers. Now they thrive across the state. And now this photo reminds me of many human characters I have met in my life.
None have topped these, though.

I noticed this incessantly waving flag was the screensaver of the giant RNC monitors, as I was watching a CNN interview with a couple young RNC bloggers. They discussed Palin's "performance" as the network replayed her equally incessant waving, and smiling and waving introduction prior to her acceptance speech. I felt like I was watching the twin towers explode. Over and over and over again.
